Crayton Printing was started in 1934 to print and ship work for the Masons. It was bought by Duane Juell in 1994 and turned into a finishing shop for other printers. We still do much of that kind of work in combination with the finishing work on our letterpress creations.
Heritage Letterpress was started in 1956 creating books, magazines and periodicals with hot lead and foundry type. We were still creating books in this manner until a few years ago when the current owner, Duane Juell bought the struggling company and turned it into a boutique printing shop.
Remnants of Crayton-Heritage Letterpress's history can be seen in the shop today. We still posess some of our old hand-set type and the giant book printing press in the shop.
Making Old Technology New
We still use old letterpress technology-- all our presses have been lovingly restored and refurbished to create our one-of-a-kind prints. Many of them have been modified to allow for the deep impressions so sought after by today's designers. We create and use photopolymer plates to allow the designer to have complete control over artistic and layout elements.
